Home Made Solar Filter
Home Made Sun Filter
In this tutorial, you will learn how to make an inexpensive solar filter to take pictures of the sun.
*Disclaimer, never look at the sun without the adequate eye protection as you can cause permanent eye damage.

Materials:
- Mylar – I bought a Mylar blanket at amazon that cost me $3
- Cardboard Paper
- Stapler
Once you have the materials, you will need to make a frame for it.
In this example I’m using a 130mm square frame but you could do it any shape you like.
Next
- Cut out a rectangle 130mm by 260mm
- Cut out inner rectangles
- Cut the Mylar to cover the holes made. I recommend using 2 sheets of Mylar paper per filter. Do an extra filter with 3 Mylar layers so that you can experiment. The first one i did was with only 1 Mylar paper and it wasn’t enough.
- Close the filter’s frame so that it looks like a square (or round depending on the shape you choose) and staple it closed so that the Mylar is tight.
And that’s it! That’s all you need to start taking some solar pictures.
