Sun Photography – Oct 25, 2011

This is my first attempt at solar photography. It was taken on Oct 25, 2011 before 9am. The Mylar filter i used made the picture metallic blue, so i used a standard photo editing software to move the color spectrum to yellow. The stuff around the sun are clouds. The dark round spot toward the right look like a planet passing by.

I will attempt more pictures in clearer skies and post.

I used this home made mylar filter to take this picture.

If you love photography, chances are that you would love to have an arsenal of lenses to play with list. I’ve gone through all the Nikon Lenses, and have selected these top lenses that I think every photo enthusiast would love to have this Christmas season.

Best Lenses for this  Holiday Season:

24mm – f/3.5D ED Perspective Control DSLR Lens

This is a sick lens, but a bid pricey at over 2k retail price. Allows you do do crazy effects with tilt shiting. Perfect for architectural, nature and commercial photography

60mm – f/2.8D AF Micro / Macro DSLR Lens

I love this lens. Ideal for taking close-up photographs of flowers, insects and or other small objects with stunning detail and clarity.

16 mm – f/2.8D AF Fisheye Lens

This super cool ultra-wide-angle fisheye lens creates dramatic images ideal for super wide angle special effects  and close-ups.

10-24mm – f/3.5-4.5G ED People & Events DSLR Lens

This ultra wide-angle lens, designed exclusively for use with Nikon’s DX-format, provides a versatile wide-angle zoom perspective.

28-300mm – f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Sports and Action DSLR Lens

The 300mm lets you zoom up close at a reasonable cost compared to some of the other high priced lenses. I recommend this lens to anyone that wants a multi purpose lens, works for DX and FX cameras. It also saves you time from switching lens back and forth.

Your favorite Nikon Lens didn’t make it into the list? Let me know what you think.

I took this pic the other day at the Bay. These birds just came cruising along the shore.

So what is DSLR and what does it stand for? DSLR stands for Digital Single Lens Reflex and it refers to digital cameras that use a mechanical mirror system and pentaprism to direct light from the lens to an optical viewfinder on the back of the camera.
